Video Games

When I think about video games the first thing that comes to mind is my neighbor from last year who spent more time in his room playing video games by himself than he did sleeping. It was sad. I always thought video games were useless and I never understood the urge to sit in front of the T.V. for hours with a conroller in your hands. I've come to realize that video games just don't appeal to me.
I know if sounds cheezy but after reading just one chapter out of this crazy video game book, I had a better appreciation for video games. I think it's very interesting that kids will spend hours upon hours trying to beat the giant warlock, but can't spend an hour doing their math homework. I think looking at video games through James Gee's eyes will help me understand ways to teach kids tap into what drives kids to learn.
